I'm not sure if it's just me, but remembering to buy new candles each year for my advent wreath is difficult. I would reuse the ones from last year but I either lost them or they broke.
I started thinking to myself... what if my advent wreath was a little more sturdy? So I went to Walmart and looked for supplies to make my own for less than what it would cost to order a wreath and candles from Amazon.
Supplies
Candles: I started with the sturdy unscented white pillar candles. No one will be breaking these! It was $3.88 each and I bought four. 15.52. You could get the smaller size for $2.72 each, making it $10.88 total.

Ribbon: Then I got ribbon. I had to get purple and pink. If you already have ribbon or construction paper, you would not need to buy any, but I bought a small spool of purple and pink ribbon for $1.97 each.

Greenery: This is totally optional, but I love that the circle of greenery teaches us the 'evergreen and unending' love of God. I bought two sprigs of artificial boxwood leaves, then used a wire cutter (or scissors you don't care about ruining) to cut off the sprigs to wrap together in a circle.

Assembly
To assemble this wreath, it only took about 10 minutes.

I cut pieces of ribbon long enough to wrap around the pillar candle once. Then I used scotch tape to tape the ends of the ribbon together, secure around the candle. I did this for all four candles, 3 purple, 1 pink. You could do the same with strips of construction or tissue paper.
Next, I took off all the little sprigs of each boxwood artificial plant. Then I wrapped them, one by one, wrapping the bottom skinny stem around the top leaf. I did this about 8 times or so to make a circle.
I think it turned out well! And it should last a few years!

Happy Advent!
