How the Rosary Changed My Life

To be honest, I used to think the rosary was super boring. I’m a self-diagnosed A.D.D.er so it’s harder to keep my attention. I space out… a lot. So, I always felt like I was “bad” at praying the rosary because more times than not I would space out and forget which bead I was on, or more likely which finger I was on as I often forget to carry my rosary.

So, when I started having kids, the little time and energy I did have was so precious to me that I did NOT want to use it on something I found boring and tedious. But Mary kept calling me closer to her… So occasionally I would pray a rosary and feel wrapped in her mantel. I began to see the time as mom/daughter time, her slowly showing my soul how to imitate hers. It was powerful, but it still took energy from me. After I had my 5th and 6th children (boy girl twins), I was at an all time low in terms of energy, patience, and attention.

Yet I kept feeling Mary call me to spend time with her in praying the rosary. Not because it was a to-do list in need of completion or some obligation, but it was Mary’s way of helping me with the overwhelm. It was like when I prayed a rosary, I invited my mama Mary to come over and hold my kids for a while. Better yet, it was like my mama Mary came over to hold me for a while.

I can’t explain it but investing the time, attention, and energy it took to pray a rosary paid off exponentially. I was more patient, more loving, and more at peace on the days I prayed a rosary. I decided to pray a rosary each day for lent. And while I didn’t always feel better after, I could look back and see how much more I got done around the house, how much more at peace I felt, how much more gratitude I had. I started noticing the days I didn’t pray, I was much more impatient, much more selfish, and honestly much more tired.

Mamas, Mary knows the demands our children put on us. She knows how much we would appreciate her help. Because Jesus made her the Queen of heaven, she is also allowed to disperse the treasures of heaven (God’s grace!). So when we pray to her, we are asking for her to pray for us. She is able to give us God’s grace in a very effective way!

The rosary will change your life, but don’t take my word for it (insert Reading Rainbow “duh duh duh” sound). Check out what these other moms on Facebook had to say about how the rosary has helped them…

What Other Moms Have to Say about The Rosary:

“We pray a family rosary every night. It started when I conceived my oldest during the month of October- the month of the rosary and I was in the middle of a Marian consecration leading up to Dec 8. Now, we just kept up the habit as I nursed all the babies. It’s sometimes peaceful, calm and sometimes chaotic and crazy with three little girls, but they color or do Legos during it! We are blessed to have such a devotion to our Lady.” -Cayla F.

“My husband is a convert from Protestantism, and the first time we prayed a Rosary together was when he was still a Protestant — we were taking shelter from a tornado together and were scared. He didn’t have to make up a spontaneous prayer in that moment, we could just pray the Scriptures that are the prayers of the Rosary, and focus on Jesus and Mary and pray for protection from harm. The Rosary has really been a blessing particularly when I don’t have words”- Shelbie L.

“I started praying the Rosary almost two years ago. At first, I wasn't doing it every day, but I was trying really hard to find the time. Eventually, it just became a part of my day. My little one knows when I'm praying, and she likes to hang out with me and sometimes prays along, too.” -Magda R.

I just started about 2 weeks ago. I play it on the Hallow app while I'm making next day lunches and cleaning up once the kids are asleep. I want to sit and fully devote myself to the prayers but right now this is what works.”- Jenna M.

“I met my husband because of the rosary. It was my first lent back in the church after being away for 7 years (I'm a revert) I was a single mom to a daughter under 1. I decided to pray a rosary for all 40 days of Lent. One of my intentions was for my God to be readying my future husband for me. Right before Easter I joined catholic match not thinking anything would happen just seeing what was out there. 3 days after I joined my husband messaged me. We got married a year later. He was a single father who was a revert finding his way back to the church. Now we have 2 boys together on top of our 2 beautiful children we had.

We now live liturgically, have a deep faith at the center of our family, and we prayer the rosary every single night as a family

I have seen endless fruit from the rosary. It brings calm to anxieties, comfort to pain, joy to the simple, and all around a deeper love for Christ and His Mother. I recommend praying it daily to everyone I know. It will change your life for good ” -Maureen L.

“I never had time to say the rosary. I knew it would be good to do it, but I felt like I never had time. Until I made the promise to not go on social media before finishing a rosary. It's been 2 years since that promise and I don't think I've missed a day.

Do I feel a lot of graces flow from it? Honestly, no. But in this busy season of life where little beings depend on me 24/7, where my mind is constantly occupied, where prayer had become really difficult, I know that through this daily rosary, I'm in contact with God. I know mama Mary is praying with and for me. I know the graces are there, no matter if I feel or see them or not.” -Marthe S.

“This isn't parenting-related but I prayed the rosary before I believed in God and I would pray for belief. As you'd imagine, it ended up working lol.” -Megan H.
